BBMP’s magical promise
BBMP’s magical promise
TMES NEWS NETWORK
Bangalore: Amidst all the apprehensions, the BBMP is confident of fixing magic box underpasses at two places — Windsor Manor Junction and Cauvery Junction by January-end — and the remaining will be completed by March as per schedule.
According to BBMP engineers, the magic box at Cauvery Junction will be fixed by January 20 while by the month-end, Windsor Manor underpass will be ready. The BBMP is ready with the required precasting box segments to fix the magic box. However, progress of work may be affected if workers go on leave for Sankranti or Pongal festival.
Field inspection to conduct soil testing has been completed at Cauvery Junction. The work has been entrusted to a private laboratory and the report will be submitted on Wednesday. However, soil testing and shifting of utilities near Windsor Manor junction will be avoided, as the magic box will be fixed on the earth grade and ramps will be provided.
BWSSB has expedited the work on shifting of utilities. “Other related activities like widening of roads and making necessary arrangements are in full swing. Magic box will be fixed in 72 hours as promised. But, flow of traffic will be affected. BBMP has taken up measures to fix it without affecting the traffic flow,’’ engineers added.

Yes. I can confirm that the work has started in full swing at the Cauvery Junction (Wed 16 Jan 08) and traffic restrictions are in place.I could already see the postivie effects of these traffic changes. I was able to travel from Mekhri Circle to the BDA junction in about 3-4 mins time around 9:30 AM this morning and didn't have to stop anywhere. I had to spend about 20-255 mins on a good day to cover the same distance a few days ago.
I am sure that these underpasses will be a grand success. However I would like to point out to the BBMP authorities that in addition to these underpasses being built using the magic boxes, a skywalk is absolutely essential between the 2 bus stops on either side of T-Chowdiah road. Every day several hundred pedestrians run across the T.Chowdiah road to get to the other side. When the underpassses are done and traffic starts moving smoothly it would become very very difficult and also dangerous for the pedestrians to cross the T.Chowdiah road.
