BBMP identifies 17 lakes for facelift

BBMP identifies 17 lakes for facelift
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Seventeen water bodies around Bangalore will get a fresh lease of life with BBMP identifying them for rejuvenation. BBMP appointed two private consultants for preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) — Designers and Stem.
The consultants will give a detailed report on how to divert polluted water to nearby secondary treatment plants (STP) to treat and let them back into the lake.
Sensing that it is not feasible to set up STPs and considering BBMP’s lack of expertise in operating the plants, the consultants have been asked to chalk out plans to divert polluted water and sullage. The report is expected to be submitted by mid-January. A feasibility report has been prepared on all 17 lakes and BBMP approval has been sought.
Rejuvenation of lakes include desilting and providing holistic approach to them. Walking and cycle tracks would be provided wherever possible for residents. To prevent littering, the lakes would be fenced. The DPRs would be submitted to the Lake Development Authority and would be sent to the JNNURM steering committee for approval. Rejuvenation of lakes would be taken up with financial assistance from the JNNURM. TIME FOR CLEAN-UP
