Sweet relief: underpass to open tomorrow
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: The Ramamurthynagar underpass will be thrown open to the public on Monday and 28 senior freedom fighters will be honoured with sites.
The much-awaited 850-metre underpass connecting Hebbal and KR Puram was completed at a cost of Rs 17.46 crore. The project was taken up to avoid traffic congestion on the Outer Ring Road and Banaswadi-Ramamurthynagar Road. The underpass is expected to provide easy access to motorists going to KR Puram, Hebbal, Banaswadi and Ramamurthynagar.
The initial project deadline was June 2007, but work got delayed because the railways did not part with part of their land for the project, a senior BDA official said. Further, work came to a halt in the monsoon months of June and July, and later got affected again due to acute shortage of sand. Finally, work was completed in November, BDA officials added.
After the inauguration, governor Rameshwar Thakur will allot sites to 28 senior freedom fighters at BTM Layout 6th Stage, each measuring 30/40 ft. All the beneficiaries are aged between 80 and 85 years. The BDA had earlier allotted sites to 19 freedom fighters in March at Happy Valley in Banashankari 5th stage.
