Contempt notice served on NICE

Contempt notice served on NICE
Bangalore, dhns:
The High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to NICE, its MD Ashok Kheny and seven other directors, on a contempt complaint filed by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

The Board, in its civil contempt complaint, alleged that NICE had been going on with construction of roads under the BMIC project till this date despite an August 31 status quo order by Karnataka State Appellate Authority.
The Board had withdrawn consent and environmental clearance to works of BMIC project pursuant to some violations by NICE. This was appealed before the KSAA which had ordered status quo, it stated.
KSPCB counsel Diwakar said KSAA was a judicial authority and violating its order amounted to an offence punishable under Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
