Bellulli pataki, atom bombs banned

City Police Commissioner has prohibited the procurement, possession, sale and use of crackers such as atom bombs, lakshmi pataki, sputniks of all varieties, explosives containing potassium chlorate and potassium perchlorate such as bellulli pataki, nelagundu and others in any part of Bangalore from 10 am on November 7 to 10 pm on November 11.


Bursting crackers is synonymous with Deepavali. But along with having fun, it’s also time to adhere to some rules.

City Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao has prohibited the procurement, possession, sale and use of crackers such as atom bombs, lakshmi pataki, sputniks of all varieties, explosives containing potassium chlorate and potassium perchlorate such as bellulli pataki, nelagundu and others in any part of Bangalore from 10 am on November 7 to 10 pm on November 11.

Violation of the order will entail, apart from prosecution, seizure of the entire stock of such crackers/ explosives found in the possession of any licensee or any other person, states a release. There are more restrictions.

The cracker sellers should not allow any bursting of crackers within 75 metres of their shed/ selling place and anyone found violating these provisions will be debarred from obtaining crackers licence for the next five years.

Mr Rao has further prohibited using crackers to prevent public annoyance and risks to public safety during stipulated hours:

*Bursting of crackers after 10 pm and before 6 am on any day till Sunday is a big no-no.

*Bursting of rockets of all sizes regardless of their explosive contents in all congested residential areas and areas where thatched huts are located and where it is likely to cause any hazard to life or property is also not allowed.

If you thought this was all, there are certain noise standards for fire - crackers too:

*The manufacture, sale or use of fire - crackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB at 4 metres distance from the point of bursting is prohibited. In addition, crackers in an area comprising not less than 100 metres around hospitals, educational institutions, courts and religious places is also prohibited.

Clean Deepavali

BBMP Commissioner, Dr S Subramanya has also urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in the city during Deepavali. According to the Palike, crackers worth Rs 80 crore have been sold this year. All corporation hospitals are equipped to provide medical care to people during any accidents while bursting crackers.
