Lake stinks again

Lake stinks again
Bangalore, dhns:

It’s post-festival time and residents of Ulsoor, again, have a complaint to lodge.

With the immersion of hundreds of idols of Goddess Durga at Ulsoor lake on Sunday and Monday, as part of Dasara festivities, idol immersion tank at the lake resembles a garbage dump. Result: The tank water has turned black and started stinking.

Unable to bear the nuisance, residents of Ulsoor called up this paper to complain about it. “The stink the Ganesha idol immersion left behind wasn’t gone, and the Durga idols are immersed to make the condition worse. What will happen to the lake and the people living around? Satishchandra Gupta, who has been selling helmets near the lake for nine years, asked. The condition worsens in summer when the area starts stinking and no customer stops by to buy my carpets, said Riyaz, a carpet-seller. Residents are scared the children may fall sick if action is not taken soon.

BBMP Joint Commissioner (East) S N Nagaraj said: “We’ll start the cleaning process in a day or two. Due to Durga Pooja rush, cleaning couldn’t be done immediately. The cleaning will take two to three days.”
