Twin rallies may affect traffic

Twin rallies may affect traffic
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Motorists may be well advised to avoid MG Road on Saturday, as traffic movement may be affected due to twin rallies scheduled for the day. Christian groups, under the banner of Karnataka Chraista Ranga, will take out a silent rally on Saturday, protesting the home ministry’s inaction against miscreants who are allegedly targeting Christians. On the same day, the Srirama Sena will also hold a parallel protest to counter the Christians’ rally.
Addressing reporters here on Thursday, Bangalore North MP H T Sangliana said: “It is clear that the atrocities upon Christians in the state during the past 18 months have taken place due to police inaction.’’ He said that the JD(S), which holds the home department portfolio, should accept responsibility.
“Our repeated pleas have gone unheard. It is unfortunate that action has not been taken to stop such incidents and not a word has been uttered by the home minister to protect Christians,’’he said.
The rally will start at 10 am from Trinity Church junction and culmibate at Queen’s Statue, MG Road.
Sangliana will also lead a delegation to Raj Bhavan and submit a memorandum to the governor. The Srirama Sena will assemble at the Mahatma Gandhi statue between 10 am and 1 pm. Rashtriya Hindu Sena president Pramod Mutalik will address the gathering.
‘Cancel permission’
The Hindu Samudayagala Okkuta has urged the government to cancel the permission given to carry out a silent protest march undertaken by Christians on Saturday. The Hindu forum held a demonstration at Trinity Circle on Thursday evening and contended that the proposed rally will lead to communal tension.
