Bangalore: Crammed roads found their way into the maiden meeting of the chief minister with new BBMP commissioner S Subrahmanya on Monday. While CM H D Kumaraswamy blamed the lack of inter-departmental co-ordination on the road widening projects, he also called for expediting works.
The CM is hoping to meet senior BBMP officers to chalk out a plan to speed up all ongoing projects soon, the new commissioner is now busy doing a reality check on all major projects. He has started holding meetings with various departments.
The work along the four roads — Seshadri Road, Palace Road, Race Course Road and Kasturba Road — identified for widening in the first phase, are facing major challenges like shifting of the utility lines and felling of trees. If lack of co-ordination between BBMP and other government agencies like Bescom has caused the delay, felling of trees has been met with resistance from the green brigade. Last month, Bescom was annoyed over BBMP failing to act on a detailed estimate for shifting powerlines along three roads — Seshadri Road, Race Course Road and Palace Road. However, BBMP authorities claimed that the issue has been sorted out.
