35,000 flats on encroached land: BDA
DH News Service, Bangalore:
BDA Commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda said that Bangalore Development Authority will construct 35,000 flats on encroached government land in the City.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will construct 20,000 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and 15,000 Middle Income Group (MIG) flats on encroached government land in the City.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday after inaugurating the Loop 1 of the Airport Road grade separator, BDA Commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda said the BDA will construct these flats on 500 acres of land which will be handed over to it by the State government.
“Construction of flats for the economically weaker sections is one of the chief minister’s priority projects. We have sent a proposal to the Revenue Department and it is being processed. The plan is likely to be approved in six months,” he said.
Mr Gowda said the BDA will also allocate Rs 500 crore for developing the infrastructure in its layouts and is also undertaking construction works at the proposed flyovers and underpasses, which include the Magadi-Mysore Road flyover. Work on the Peripheral Ring Road will also commence in June, he said.
Landscaping below the newly-constructed flyovers at the Airport Road, Jayadeva Circle, Dairy Circle and Ananda Rao Circle will be carried out soon, he said.
On the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), he said, “We have suggested some changes and also noted the observations of the public, which will all be considered.”
Residents in the Airport Flyover neighbourhood gheraoed the BDA Commissioner and brought to his notice the problems they faced.
They said the BDA had not provided any pedestrian crossings or provision for vehicles to take a U-turn on the Koramangala Intermediate Ring Road.
He said a skywalk would be built and crossings closed to ease the problem.
