Bangalore: The BDA will construct a grade separator at the intersection of outer ring road - Magadi Road, to de-congest the ORR. The foundation stone will be laid by chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday.
Magadi Road-ORR intersection leads to Tumkur Road towards north and Mysore road in the south, Magadi on west and towards Majestic area in the eastern direction. The land use around the project area is mostly commercial in nature, particularly towards Magadi Road.
The proposed grade separator will be a bi-directional flyover, will run along the ORR and cut across the junction, catering to the straight traffic. It will have approach ramps from Tumkur Road side and Mysore Road side.
BMRCL is proposing a mono rail type of mass transit system extending from Mysore Road to Tumkur Road, through Magadi Road-ORR junction to join Toll Gate Metro station. The mono rail corridor is to be integrated with the proposed grade separator, which could be done at the stage of detailed designs. Under this condition, BMRCL has given a go-ahead to BDA to take up the proposed grade separator work. This project, which is estimated to cost Rs 30 crore, will be completed in 18 months.
Complex extension
To create extra commercial space, BDA will add one more floor to the existing BDA complex, Banashankari. This will add 27,438 sqft of shopping area at a cost of Rs 2.9 crore. The existing complex has the ground and first floor, with 83 shops in all, the BDA south divisional offices, BangaloreOne office, a railway reservation counter and the City Central Library.
