Three elevated roads soon to ease traffic congestion

Three elevated roads soon to ease traffic congestion
The Times of India

Bangalore: Entering or leaving Bangalore could soon be stress-free. Three main stretches on Mysore Road, Hosur Road and Tumkur Road will get elevated roads as the BBMP has proposed to commission the projects this year.
These junctions are crucial and are currently gridlocked with traffic of over 12,000 passenger car units (PCU) per hour during peak hours. The BBMP, in its annual budget, has set aside Rs 9 crore to start the project. Once ready, the elevated roads will ensure signal-free vehicular movement on these three stretches.
BBMP sources said, “We will shortlist the private agencies to conduct a feasibility study and prepare detailed project reports to implement these projects. The project should take off in two months after the budget allocation is approved by the state government.’’
On Mysore Road, the 6-km, six-lane elevated road will be the continuation of Sirsi Circle flyover up to Bangalore University (Jnanabharathi Circle). The project will mean signal-free traffic movement from Town Hall to the entrance of Bangalore. Currently, bottlenecks prevail at Gaali Anjaneya Temple and Kimco Junction with bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The BBMP had earlier proposed a bridge between Gaali Anjaneya Temple and Deepanjali Nagar (Vijaynagar). Authorities say that with this elevated road project, a ramp may be proposed from Gaali Anjaneya Temple and Deepanjali Nagar and reject the earlier bridge idea. Travel time from Town Hall to Jnanabharthi could be as little as 15 minutes. The second elevated road is on Hosur Road between Shoolay Circle and Silk Board Junction. This 9-km road will provide some relief for commuters going towards Koramangala and Electronic City from the city centre. It will start from Shoolay Circle and go through the Vellara Junction, Military School, past the Hosur Road Cemetery, Adugodi, Forum Mall, St John’s Medical College and Hospital, Madiwala and Silk Board. The BBMP has proposed to integrate Vellara Junction flyover proposal with the elevated road by providing a ramp.
The third elevated road is on Tumkur Road between Yeshwanthpur and Outer Ring Road Junction. The road is chock-a-block almost throughout the day as goods vehicles and buses enter and leave the city through it.
A 5-km road is proposed here to ensure smooth flow. A downward ramp towards Peenya and Hesaraghatta is also suggested here.
