With exactly one year left to the opening of the Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli, work at the construction site has shifted pace to the final phase.

The greenfield airport is set for a April 2, 2008 opening.

Major structural concreting works have been completed at the terminal building, that will have two major walls on the east and west side, each comprising 30 pre-cast wall panels. About 75 per cent of the roof elements have also been placed.

Construction work of the top cabin at the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower is in progress, with the height of the ATC tower now at 60 metres (of the total 65 metres). Around 45 per cent construction of the final layer of the four-km runway has been completed. At present, cables are being laid for the airfield lights at the runway.

At the apron area, concreting works of the foundation for six passenger boarding bridges, out of a total eight, have been completed. Earthworks for the car park area have been completed and the construction of pavement works has also commenced.

Concessionaire construction: Construction activities taken up by the airport concessionaires are also progressing at the site.

At the fuel farm, welding for the three tanks continued while construction of the administration building and the external road network continued.
