BANGALORE: The Bio-diversity M a n a g e m e n t Committee set-up by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) launched the area documentation programme in Ward No 2 - Mathikere, on Saturday.

This is a pilot project and it will be followed by similar documentation of ecological elements in 150 wards of Bangalore.

A Core Committee has been set up comprising 20 experts from various departments of Bangalore University under chairperson of Department of Environmental Science Dr N Nandini. On Saturday, the team chose to begin documentation from the 85 acre J P Park in Mathikere as the official launch for the documentation programme.

Over the next three months, the core committee members will document trees, parks, water bodies, drains and fauna in the Mathikere area. The expert group will be divided into four parts: the first group will exclusively pen the ecological map of Mathikere while the other teams will visit every house hold and collect data from residents.

Speaking to this website's newspaper, Dr Nandini said that a one-day workshop will be conducted for the residents which will include a motivation programme to create a green screen in front of their house and lessons on recycling waste-water.

Biodiversity Management Committee Chairman Y N Yellappa Reddy, Biodiversity Committee Executive officer Dr Sathyanarayan Bhat, Biodiversity Expert Harish Bhat, former corporator Nanjundappa and BMP Tree Officer Udpudi Krishna were also present during the launch.
