Namma Bengaluru Nagarikara Vedike, a new forum to promote harmony among various linguistic and religious groups in the City, while raising issues concerning the City, will be inaugurated on March 4, organisation secretary Shudra Srinivas said on Wednesday.

The Vedike will take up issues like water woes, crime and child labour and get experts to comment on them.

It will also try to create awareness on these problems among the youth, Mr Srinivas told newspersons.

He said experts will conduct workshops to create awareness on social and developmental issues for former corporators, MLAs, zilla panchayat and gram panchayat members.

The Vedike’s agenda also includes adopting corporation parks to plant native trees and medicinal plants, developing network with the heads of linguistic and religious groups and also resolving slum problems.

The Vedike members will also visit the areas where the civic works are undertaken, supervise them from time to time and report to the corporation authorities, the government and the public, he said.

The Vedike will also release a bi-monthly newsletter to highlight these issues, he added.
