So far 102 persons have been arrested in connection with the encroachments on Government land in and around Bangalore, according to Mr A T Ramaswamy, Chairman of Joint House Committee inquiring into the encroachments.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Mr Ramaswamy said, of the arrested, 45 belonged to Bangalore Urban district and the remaining to Bangalore Rural district.
He said during the last one month 469 cases had been registered against 943 persons for encroaching on Government land.
Of the total 1,18,668 acres of revenue land belonging to the Government in and around Bangalore, survey had been conducted in respect of 1,02,623 acres. Of this, it was identified that encroachment had taken place on 18,447 acres by 25,713 persons.
Cases registered
In all, 506 cases had been registered, of which 92 were before the High Court, 179 before the appellate tribunal, 183 before the civil courts and 52 before the Special Deputy Commissioner.
Survey
According to Mr Ramaswamy, in all 28,037 acres land was yet to be surveyed, including 1,402 acres identified under the Land Ceiling Act, 1,725 acres under section 71(A) and (B) and 1,377 acres identified under section 36/3 of Land Reforms Act and 7,805 acres of Inam land.
Mr Ramaswamy demanded registration of criminal cases against 174 officers for abetting the land grabbing. According to the information made available to the Committee, four deputy tahsildars, 69 revenue inspectors and 101 village accountants had abetted the encroachments.
Though the Government had promulgated a special ordinance, no action had been initiated against these officers. The reason given was that action would be taken against them after conducting a departmental inquiry.
