Hassle-free ride on roads

Hassle-free ride on roads
New Indian Express

BANGALORE: In the IT Capital, it sounds funny when one says ‘Cruise through main roads of the City at over 60 kmph’. But it was true on Monday morning, when City’s most important roads like M G Road, Cunningham Road, Indiranagar 100-ft Road, Jayanagar, Malleswaram and Koramangala were just a long strip of tarmac.

Not only daredevil riders but also a few commoners had their dream rides across major City roads, making utmost use of the bandh which was called by the Kannada organisations against the Cauvery Tribunal Verdict.

Children were seen playing on roads and playgrounds, near residential areas, as the educational institutions had declared holiday.

Roads which are otherwise piled up with traffic on Monday mornings, wore a deserted look. Police personnel were positioned at many places, drawing elaborate security plans. Policemen were seen sipping tea, reading papers and chit-chatting.

Some traffic police, used the situation to their advantage in certain places and were seen engaged in maintenance works on roads, by cleaning and painting the signages. Commuters enjoyed a smoke-free ride, remembering the name ‘Garden City’.
