Monday’s total bundh isn’t the end of the slew of protests the City has been witnessing over the last few days on the Cauvery issue. It may just be the beginning, if various pro-Kannada organisations’ plans are anything to go by.

Monday’s total bundh isn’t the end of the slew of protests the City has been witnessing over the last few days on the Cauvery issue. It may just be the beginning, if various pro-Kannada organisations’ plans are anything to go by.

While the entire Kannada filmdom is hitting the streets on Tuesday and marching to the Raj Bhavan, the Kannada Sangharsha Samiti is holding a dharna in front of Union Minister Ambareesh’s residence at JP Nagar demanding his resignation. The Adugodi Cauvery Nagarika Horata Samithi is staging a protest at Adugodi Circle at 10 am during the day.

The Akhila Karnataka Gadi Horata Samithi is meeting on Wednesday to chalk out plans for holding protests in the coming days.

All sectors of the Kannada filmdom -- artistes, producers, exhibitors, distributors and directors -- will take out a rally at 11 am on Tuesday from KFCC office near Shivananda Circle till Raj Bhavan, where a memorandum will be submitted to the Governor.

Traffic mess

According to KFCC Chairman Tallam Nanjunda Shetty, hundreds of people will participate in the protest. This in other words means traffic jams on all roads in the surrounding areas. Race Course Road, Kumara Krupa Road, Raj Bhavan Road and all other roads connecting to Basaveshwara Circle are certain to be in a logjam during the march.

Additional Commissioner (Traffic and Security) M N Reddy has asked motorists to avoid K R Circle and Raj Bhavan routes between 11 am and 1 pm. Besides, steps have been taken to divert traffic at some vital points so that there is minimal inconvenience to the motorists, he added.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened all along the procession route. Around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed for the job, said a senior police officer.

Kannada activist and MLA Vatal Nagaraj said that the agitation will continue until “justice” is done. Not only Kannada organisations, but farmers’ associations will also come to Bangalore in coming days to protest and to mount pressure on the State government to act.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader Narayana Gowda has said that his faction will decide on the future course of action after holding a meeting of office-bearers in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Similarly Praveen Kumar Shetty, leader of another faction of the Vedike, said his organisation will also meet on Tuesday to discuss further course of action.
