The Seshadripuram Market was partially demolished by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials, on Saturday. Many BMP-owned markets are in commercial hubs and are congested. To ease the congestion and optimise the land use, the BMP has decided to relocate the existing shops or remodel the buildings, said BMP officials.

In Seshadripuram market, the original allottees had not been conducting business in the shops allotted for many years nor paying the rent, said BMP officials, who are now planning to rehabilitate only the genuine shopkeepers. While, only a portion was demolished, the remaining portion, which is occupied, would be demolished after making temporary arrangements to accommodate the 26 shopkeepers.

Another team led by Joint Commissioner (South) cleared encroachment of footpath on a stretch from Seetha Circle to Hosakerehalli Ring Road upto 80 feet road, which had been occupied by petty shops, street vendors and two-wheeler garages.

During the day, Mr Dilip Rau, Administrator of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike visited the BCC Layout in Chandra Layout to meet the parents of the eight-year-old girl, who was mauled to death by dogs on Friday. He ordered closure of an illegal meat shop in the locality after some residents complained about it. He warned the people against dumping animal waste into vacant plots at night.
