BANGALORE: Traffic congestion in Bangalore City will soon be eased as the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has now moved a step ahead with the construction of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR).
The Ring Road is expected to take the traffic of heavy duty vehicles, freeing the City roads. The construction of the PRR will begin from January, 2007. The Government has issued a final notification calling for objections, if any. The process is likely to be completed by first week of January, after which the work will begin.
BDA Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda told this website’s newspaper that the notification was issued to ensure that people do not raise any objections after the work commences.
“Since we have not received any objections after the preliminary notification was issued on November 15, the final steps of construction are being taken.”
“After receiving approval from the government due to the changes made in the alignments on Bannerghatta Road and NICE corridor, we will begin with the construction,” he said.
As per the prior alignment, the PRR was to pass through the Bannerghatta Reserve Forest in one phase and intersect at the NICE Corridor in the other phase. Now according to the new alignment, the PRR will deviate from the National Park. It will run parallel at a distance of 2- 15 kilometres from the Bangalore- Mysore Express Highway.
“Since the PRR cannot pass through the reserve forests, the change in the first phase have been made. Further, since the PRR is expected to be a break free smooth drive, it will not intersect with the NICE corridor.”
Gowda commented that the increasing controversy revolving around the NICE corridor made them deviate from the decided alignment.
