BANGALORE: Introduction of bus services from N.R. Colony to Jalahalli, Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, ITPL and Electronics City; increased frequency of buses from N.R. Colony to Shivajinagar and shifting of some bus stands in the area. These were some of the demands made by residents of Basavanagudi Assembly Constituency at the "Sampurna Sarige Janaspandana" programme here on Tuesday.

Participating in a programme organised by Basavanagudi MLA K. Chandrashekar, people said it was essential to introduce direct buses from N.R. Colony to Jalahalli, Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, ITPL and Electronics City as most people from Basavanagudi worked in these areas.

"It is difficult to reach our work place during peak hours if we have to change two buses. If a direct bus is introduced to these areas, it will reduce travel time and also be of great help to the workers," E. Dattatreya, a resident of Srinagar, said. While Kannada Katte Nagaraj wanted the Ganesh Bhavan bus stop on Mount Joy Road shifted to the open space behind BMS College of Engineering, Koteshwara Suryanath wanted the roads in the area to be upgraded .

Mr. Suryanath said there were only two buses to Shivajinagar from N.R. Colony. "The frequency of this service is very low and people have to change two buses to reach Shivajinagar," he said.

He suggested that the service from Srinagar to APMC Yard, Yeshwanthpur (T-12) presently plied via the City Market.

Instead, this bus can go through Girinagar, Hanumanthnagar, Chamarajpet, Sirsi Circle, Binny Mills, Leprosy Hospital, Okalipuram, Bashyamnagar, Malleswaram Railway Station and reach Yeshwanthpur, he said.

Another resident, Raja Simha, urged the authorities to increase the frequency of buses from City Railway Station to N.R. Colony. T.S. Rajashekar wanted Mr. Chandrashekar to get the open drain near the Srinagar bus stand covered, as the stench was unbearable. Ramachandran and Lokesh wanted the BMTC buses to stop near the Rajalakshmi Nursing Home.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation General Manager Hema Raju assured the citizens that the officials would study their demands and try to solve the problems. "We will soon introduce a service from your area to Jalahalli, Peenya, ITPL and Electronics City," he said.
