BBa an ng ga allo orree:: There is some good news for tourists. The tourism department has identified 35 important and strategic places in and around the City in a bid to give boost to the City tourism.
Tourism department commissioner G Kumar Naik told Vijay Times the department will upgrade some of the tourist spots at a cost of Rs 13.83 crore. Some of these spots are: The Big Banyan Tree in Bidadi, Lalbagh, Savandurga, Magadi, Nandi Hills and others. Naik said a team of engineers have been asked to study these spots. Based on the assessment, additional facilities will be provided.
Based on the estimate and importance of the places, funds will be allocated, he added. The upgradation work will begin shortly. A blueprint for the development of these tourist spots is being prepared.
"For instance, the Big Banyan Tree will be developed at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. A sum of Rs 20 lakh will be used for privatising canteen, Rs five lakh for tree conservation and Rs 8 lakh for providing toilets and drinking water facilities, he said. Toilets and drinking water facilities will be made available at all these places, he said.
Frequent transfers
A senior official of the department said due to frequent transfers of directors, the department was finding it difficult to implement any new projects. The present 35 identified places can be developed only with a stable and active director. "If a director who plays a vital role is being changed frequently, how can one expect development?" he asked.
