Traders and vendors of Malleshwaram market have alleged that the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has failed to take them into confidence in its plans to upgrade and modernise the market.

The traders and vendors under the banner Malleshwaram New Market Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Vendors Association on Tuesday noted that BMP has recently announced that the market will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 150 crore, but has given them no information on the same.

Addressing a press conference, Association president S Venkataswamy noted that the BMP has announced its plans even as a case filed by the association in 1998 is pending before the High Court.

He noted that they are not against development and upgradation of their market.

The vendors only want an assurance that they (the old-time vendors) will get shop space - at a discount if need be - after the upgradation.

Incidentally, the BMP tried to stop the Association from holding its press conference on Tuesday.

Mr Srinivasaiah, DC Markets, BMP arrived at the Malleshwaram market yard a little before the press conference and tried to talk the association members out of it.

He made an hasty exit as he spotted the journalists arriving for the scheduled press meet.
