Dedicated hoardings for Kannada movies

Dedicated hoardings for Kannada movies
The Times of India

Bangalore: Come November 1, there won’t be any Kannada film posters pasted on the walls in Bangalore. In tune with Bangalore’s beautification programme, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has joined hands with BMP in this campaign.

The KFCC has identified 10 to 15 places in each of the 100 BMP wards, where ‘dedicated hoardings’ meant for Kannada films will be placed, through which film publicity materials will be displayed.
KFCC president H D Gangaraju said on Friday that this was agreed upon following a meeting with BMP commissioner K Jairaj. The KFCC comes in the wake of BMP’s cleanliness drive, where film posters have been easy target for them to remove.

“We spend nearly Rs 10 lakh on the posters for each film, which are abruptly pulled down. The new system will also increase the revenue to the BMP,” Gangaraju said.

Enforce Goonda Act: Following the seizure of pirated CDs and DVDs worth crores of rupees by the city police last week, the KFCC has demanded the government to enforce ‘Goonda Act’ against persons indulging in video piracy.

KFCC vice-president Sa Ra Govindu said the proposed Goonda Act has been gathering dust and the government despite being aware of the menace is keeping mum on the issue.

Rajkumar memorial: KFCC has urged BMP to provide five acres in old central jail to construct Rajkumar’s memorial. Besides, the land will be used to construct a museum to store documents relating to Kannada cinema.
