The police on Monday succeeded in dissuading the Koramangala residents from taking out a long-winding rally to Vidhana Soudha. The residents wanted to seek the government’s intervention against Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s demolition drive over building by-law and zonal norm violations.

The residents under the banner Koramangala Welfare Association, however, observed a peaceful and day-long bundh and took out a march in the locality. The police did not permit the march upto Vidhana Soudha as prohibitory orders are in force in view of the ongoing legislature session.

A representative group of eight members, led by their area corporator K B Mohan, then met Bangalore city in-charge minister R Ashok and apprised him of the matter.

Mr Ashok has reportedly promised to arrange a meeting with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday.

The bundh was by and large peaceful. Shops, offices and other business establishments remained closed. However, vehicular movement remained unaffected.

The Forum Mall, among the prominent land marks in Koramangala, was as usual a beehive of activity. Huge nets were strung across the facade of the complex probably to guard against stoning.

Early in the day a group of around 800 residents, set out from the Baby Mona School grounds in Koramangala V Block . Police intervened and halted them at the Raheja Arcade junction adjacent to Hosur Road. The police also provided escort to eight of their representatives who went to the Vidhana Soudha to meet minister Ashok.

At the BMP office limits in Koramangala, the engineers said “We are government staff, we are only doing our job.”

As many as 10 buildings had been listed for demolition last week, but only four were brought down.
