City reels under heavy winds

BANGALORE: The city witnessed unprecedented heavy winds over the last two days.
According to Met officials, while the normal maximum dust speed is anywhere between 16 and 20 knots, the wind speed was an unusual 38 knots on Monday morning at dawn. It was 32 knots on Sunday evening.
The high speed winds caused quite a bit of inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians around the city. Little branches from trees around main roads were strewn around. Pedestrians had to contend with dust particles flying into their faces and had difficulty walking on the streets.
Girish Kumar, a retired government who has been affected by a dust allergy due to the unfriendly weather, said: “I had to go out on some chores. The winds made it very difficult to walk.”
Kartik, while riding to his office in Electronics City, almost came under a falling branch. “Thankfully, I was wearing a helmet,” he said.
The obvious way to keep yourself safe is to stay indoors, but for those who have to venture out and brave the elements, Dr Mamatha, a general practitioner, has advised warm clothing.
“A lot of people tend to get sick in this weather. Take care to wear sweaters, scarves, etc. Avoid eating outside in this weather too”, she added.
