Bangalore: Koramangala Welfare Association has urged the Government to amend the law to stop demolitions in its area.

In memoranda submitted to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and others, association representatives have said that the demolition of three buildings and notices issued to owners against setback deviations and zonal irregularities had "brought horror and sleepless nights to residents of Koramangala."

They demanded that the Government should follow the Delhi model and stop the demolition drive.

They pointed out that the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had issued notices to 2,500 residents citing setback deviations and zonal irregularities.

The memoranda said information technology and biotechnology companies had their offices in prominent places such as Koramangala, Indiranagar, Jayanagar, BTM Layout and Bannerghatta Road. Demolition of these office buildings would have an adverse effect on their businesses.

"The relation between the State and the countries with which these companies are doing business will be strained. Exports will come to standstill and the State will be the biggest loser," they said.

They wanted floor area ratio to be increased, setback to be redefined and "vertical growth" encouraged.

The association has also sent copies of the memoranda to the Leaders of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Council.
