Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) is all set to honour a freedom fighter by naming a park after her on Saturday.

The park at the Tata Silk Farm area in Basavanagudi will be named after late Komala Ramachandran, a freedom fighter and social worker. The BMP has submitted a report to the City Planning and Development Sthayi Samiti and the council meeting.

Komala was eligible to avail of pension, but she did not get it. She was also eligible to avail land from the government, which was not given to her until her death. Her sons requested the government to help them out.

The BMP is putting up a name board in Komala Ramachandran’s name on Saturday and a park would be developed in that piece of land. Komala had taken up the initiative to educate widows and also set up a school in Basavanagudi for children.

Her one son Satish was a Kannada actor and is now a TV and stage artist in Chennai while the other, R Jayakumar is a social worker associated with several NGOs in the State. She has a daughter named Geeta.
