THE ROUTE MAP
The Metro Rail will run through commercial and residential areas. The first phase consisting of two corridors of double-line electrified, will cover 33 km.

The East-West corridor will be 18.10 km long, from Byapanahalli to Mysore Road terminal, going via Old Madras Road, Indiranagar, CMH Road, Ulsoor, Trinity Circle, MG Road, Cricket Stadium, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic, City Railway station, Magadi Road, Hosahalli, Vijaynagar, and Deepanjali Nagar. The 14.90 km North-South corridor will begin at Yeshwantpur terminal, and terminate at RV Road terminal going via Mahalakshmi, Rajajinagar, Kuvempu Road, Malleswaram, Swastik, Majestic, Chikpet, City Market, K R Road, Lalbagh, South End Circle and Jayanagar.

SCHEDULE
The work on the first elevated section from Byapanahalli to Cricket Stadium (7 km) is likely to begin in October 2006 and expected to be completed by December 2009. The full network in Phase I is expected to be commissioned by September 2011.

CARRYING CAPACITY
The Metro has been designed for a capacity of 40,000 phpdt (Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic).

TRAIN COACHES
Each train will consist of three coaches (2.88 metre wide) to start with. The train can accommodate a total of 1,000 persons. The coaches will be light weight modern coaches and will be later augmented to six - the carrying capacity of a six-coach train will be 2,068 passengers. The coaches, with stainless steel shells are air-conditioned and have self-closing doors.

FARE SYSTEM
The fare is considered at about 1.5 times the ordinary bus fare.

PRESENT STATUS
* MoU to be signed between GOK and GOI shortly. * Interim consultants for 7 km appointed. Detailed design consultants for stations and depots to be appointed. Shortlisting of general consultants is under process. * All utilities in 7 km stretch have been identified and tenders for utility shifting have been issued.
