THE Cariappa Memorial Park, spread over a portion of the Parade grounds, is a scenic spot situated amidst the high-rise buildings near M G Road.

The park, which is spread over 22 acres, was creat ed in the memory of Field Marshal K M Cariappa who hailed from Karnataka.

It was thrown open to the public in the year 1996 by the then Prime Minister H D Devegowda.

The garden is maintained by various divisions of the Army. A huge man-made waterfall and a pond, to which birds are attracted, enhance the beauty of t park and are considered to be the centre of attrac by many.

The 27-foot waterfall is believed to be the bigges in Asia.

A seven-feet monolithic statue of Cariappa c also be seen in this park.

A band treats visitors to some wonderful music at the elevated lawns in the park every fortnight.

A play area for children has also been created in the park. Playthings such as sand pits, Spider Web Tarzan Swing, Burma Bridge, zigzag tunnels and bal ance bars are all found here.

About 3,000 species of flora are found here along with a 1.8 km long walkers track, that is filled w cobblestones.

One other noteworthy aspect about the garden is that no chemical fertilisers or pesticides have be used for growing or maintaining the plants in the garden.

The Cariappa Memorial Park is open to public on Saturdays between 1 pm and 7 pm and between 9 am and 7 pm on Sundays. During the remaining days of the week, it is open between 5.30 pm and 8 pm.
