Muddle over underpass project

Muddle over underpass project

Matters continue to be hazy on the Malleswaram Circle underpass project though the BMP has issued work orders on the Rs 16.41 crore project early last month.

Conflicting versions are emanating from the engineering sections within the BMP. According to sources, orders have been issued by Deputy Chief Minister

Yediyurappa’s office to go slow on the project. Others said that full scale work (read excavation) will start soon, and that works like soil investigation is

already through.

In mid-March, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy himself had asked the Urban Development Department to consider the residents’ objections to the project.

The engineers however have pointed out that a structure like an underpass has very little scope for changes.

“These are structures with fixed dimensions,” said one of them.

As per the plan, the underpass to be located nearby the Sampige theatre is meant to be a four-lane structure with provision for bi-directional traffic.

The work order has been issued on May 4 to M/s East Coast Constructions India Pvt Ltd; 18 months is the set time for completion of the project.
