BANGALORE: The upgradation plans of South Central Railways (SCR) to develop Yeshwantpur junction on the lines of Dadar station in Mumbai have cost the passengers dear.

The SCR is renovating all six platforms to raise their levels but as a consequence the entire station looks like a construction site where even drinking water is hard to come by.

Passengers have no seating arrangements on the platforms, leave alone waiting rooms. The platforms have heaps of construction material and when a passenger alights in the night, he is in for a shock. The space between the second and third platforms has a huge pool of stinking water.

“The railways should have made alternative provision for passenger services. This has been going on for months. The situation is especially bad for elderly passengers and patients,” said a passenger.

The RCC footbridge connecting the first and third platforms is not kept clean and is used as a shelter by beggars.

All refreshment stalls have been demolished and passengers can only depend on stalls on the first and sixth platforms.

The transport to and from the junction leaves much to be desired. While autos and taxi services are available during the day, at night the services become rare, said another passenger.

On the market side autos and taxis are seldom available during nights and early hours. And BMTC service at night are also hard to come by.

Further, hygiene outside the railway station is absent. As the Yeshwantpur market is next to the station, the civic authorities have not paid any special attention and heaps of vegetable waste are strewn in the vicinity.
