BMP flooded with tree-fall plaints; no let-up in rain

Bangalore: Roads were flooded and trees were strewn all over as pre-monsoon showers lashed the city on Wednesday night.

On Thursday too, there were light to moderate showers. Roads were partially flooded and trees were strewn on roads in areas like JC Nagar, Mathikere, RT Nagar, Rajajinagar and Nandidurga Road. The Met department said the city experienced 8.1 mm of rain. And the forecast: partly cloudy weather and rain expected in evening/night on Friday too.

The BMP has been receiving several tree-fall complaints. Western areas have seen 13 — Magadi Road, Subramanyanagar, Rajajinagar, Mathikere, Kamalanagar, NGO Colony, BEML Layout, Malleswaram and Basaveshwarnagar.
Southern parts of the city weren’t spared too, with 15 trees strewn along the roads of JP Nagar, Hanumanthnagar, Vijayanagar, Madiwala, Jayanagar and Wilson Garden. There were nine tree-falls in the eastern parts of the city in areas like R T Nagar, Domlur, Koramangala and Ulsoor.

BMP commissioner K Jairaj has directed his engineers to attend to the complaints immediately.

Tree-fall complaints aside, there were reports of traffic jams too — Seshadripuram, Magadi Road, Airport Road, Cubbon Road, Kasturba Road, Jayanagar, Mysore Road, Lalbagh Road were the worst hit.

At Puttenahalli, which bore the brunt of rain havoc last year, the roads have become slushy and slippery. “Our road used to get flooded till last year. Now, with builders taking up road-laying work, the situation is somewhat better, said a resident.
