BMP agrees bypassing NHAI plan

BMP agrees bypassing NHAI plan

It is final and clear. The Jalahalli Cross will have an Elevated Highway and not a flyover to ease the traffic congestion. On Thursday, when Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy announced a new flyover at Jalahalli, Deccan Herald had reported that the proposal clashed with a project finalised by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the same stretch.

On Friday, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) cleared the air by expressing their intent to be partners to the Rs 380 crore project of the NHAI.

“It is correct that our proposed flyover project was overlapping that of NHAI. However, we were yet to discuss it with NHAI and other stakeholders. Now, we plan to join hands with NHAI and integrate our plan, said Bangalore City Corporation Commissioner K Jairaj.

Asked if the CM’s faux pas was an oversight, Mr Jairaj said, “The Chief Minister’s visit was only for inspection and to give the project an action-oriented approach.

“Moreover, the project site is at one end of our jurisdiction and, hence, all the confusion. We were not aware of the National Highways Authority of India project.

“Usually, we learn about it when the tenders are floated. We hope to negotiate with them on the deadline and, of course, the CM will be inaugurating it.”
