BANGALORE: Playing the cards close to his chest whether Bangalore City will get a metro-rail or mono-rail as alternative Mass Rapid Transport mode, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that the work on the project would take off soon.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy said that the Government would ensure that the Bangaloreans were not put to hardship due to the project and get better facility. Refusing to spell out whether it would be metro-rail or mono-rail project, Kumaaraswaamy said that the Government would announce the final decision within next few days and begin work immediately.

The Union Government has constituted a three member committee to give a report on this issue and the State Government would consider the recommendations of the committee while taking up the project, Kumaaraswaamy said.

Giving details of his maiden Delhi trip as Chief Minister, Kumaraaswaamy said that the Centre had shown keen interest in setting up a Centre for Corporate Excellence in the City.

The proposal was pending for a long time and it was finalised during his visit, in a meeting with Union Company Affairs Minister Premchand Gupta, who assured the State Government in this regard. The work would begin after the State Government identified the land for the purpose, he added.

Answering a question on the FAB City project, which Andhra Pradesh clinched in the last minute, Kumaaraswaamy said that he held talks with project promoters Semindia, who had promised to make other investments in the State.

The Semindia officials seem to have taken a decision in haste. Since a lot of foreign investors were involved in the project, it was difficult to reverse the decision. But, the promoters have promised to make some other investments in Karnataka, he added.
