LOCA TED on the Rajbhavan Road in the heart of the City , the Indira Gandhi musical fou tain has been bringing joy to one and all.

The fountain is located in the midst of a spread over a vast area of 17 acres. The park, ap from the fountain, also has a garden and a dren’s park.

The fountain, commissioned in the year 1996 as part of the beautification plan of the City , is o the prime places of tourist attraction and tained by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka. The fountain is one the most advanced in India and is based on multimedia technology .

The speciality of this fountain is that wat emerges from it in line with the music played, be Indian or W estern. W ater is shot in the air in s way that a number of distinct patterns are formed. These give the impression of a dance being formed to an onlooker .

The patterns formed are also projected onto screen using a twin-projector . The fountain, believed to be the country’s first musical with visual image facility , has a total of These lights are grouped into five colours arranged appropriately to illuminate a partic pattern.

T wo small rosaries are located on either s the fountain. These roses of different colou varieties make the place extremely beautiful. Lawns near the fountain area give the impre of an open landscape.

The area surrounding the musical fountain is studded with many trees, shrubs and creepers Different varieties of plants have been posi in such a way that they cover the rocks i den. This makes the landscape look extremely beautiful.

"The Karnataka Renewable Source Energy department has set up a solar energy genera the park. Solar energy from the generator is used various equipments including Reva cars, bicycles, mini-bus and a computer room," said Horticulture Deputy Director (Cubbon Park) M V enugopal.

"All these are ready and will be open to public in the near future. The park will soon be open daytime as well," he added.

"T o make the park more attractive, we plan introduce medicinal plants, orchids and shade gardens," he added. Musical fountain shows are organised every evening.

T wo shows are held with each lasting for half-anhour . The shows begin at 7.00 pm and 8.00 respectively . Mondays and second T uesdays a holidays. The entry fee for adults is Rs 10 while Rs 5 for children.
