BANGALORE: With December 5 being celebrated as ‘International Volunteer Day’, several Bangaloreans don’t have to twiddle their toes without work, but could volunteer their time to make the city more traffic-savvy. The city is bursting at the seams with vehicles on the roads numbering a whopping 20 lakh. Accidents are on the rise and despite strict regulations, drunken driving is quite common. In keeping with the ‘volunteer’ spirit, iVolunteer, an organisation that inspires city-folk to volunteer their time, is organising a ‘Road Safety Awareness’ drive, along with the Traffic Police, on December 4. The event will kick off at Anil Kumble Circle, M G Road, on Sunday at 3 pm. The day will be packed with activities till 6 PM. The entire event will conclude at Garuda Mall. Volunteers will be able to help spread awareness on road safety through short skits, distribute banners, posters and other related matter to the public and corporates, and most importantly interact with people on road-safety measures. If you thought this was the only area you could volunteer your time and expertise, you are mistaken. To commemorate ‘World Aids Day’ on December 1, you could do your bit to champion the cause. The entire campaign will conclude on December 17 with a ‘Musical Nite’ at the DRDO amphitheatre, C V Raman Nagar.
The event will feature corporate bands and the ticket sales would go towards supporting the work of Hope Foundation. All the events are being organised by volunteers themselves with no funding, but only with a sense of compassion towards these causes.
If you want to volunteer your service or time or money, contact iVolunteer office, Bangalore, on 25469242 or 98451 50840.
