Bangalore: Chief Minister N Dharam Singh on Thursday asked the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) to temporarily halt the work on the much-debated flyover near Ramakrishna Ashram.

Participating at the death anniversary of Kengal Hanumanthaiah at the Vidhana Soudha, the CM is said to have asked the BCC to go slow on the project. The direction came in the wake of former Basavanagudi MLA K N Subbareddy submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.

He had suggested that Ramakrishna Circle be reduced in size and traffic signals installed there. Even the Governor , T N Chaturvedi, had expressed that there was no need for the flyover , Reddy had said.

BCC engineer-in-chief P K Srihari said he had not received any communication in this regard.

Flyover opposed: The Bangalore Citizens W elfare Forum on Thursday firmly opposed the proposed flyover at Ramakrishna Circle, Bull T emple Road, saying it would destroy the ambience of the Ramakrishna Math, besides affecting residents and businesses in the area.

Forum representatives G S Shivarudrappa, noted Kannada poet, M Chidanandamurthy , Prof L S Sheshagiri Rao and H S Doreswamy said there was no rationale for the flyover as there was no peak-hour congestion in the area.
