Who will not relate to the frail old man, bowed as much by the weight of his age as the sorrows of mankind?

Who will not relate to the frail old man, bowed as much by the weight of his age as the sorrows of mankind?

The father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, will be brought back to life at the Mahatma Gandhi park on M G Road here.

As part of its plan to develop theme parks across the City, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has converted the Mahatma Gandhi park into a Gandhi theme park which will reflect the life of the Mahatma.

Three sculptures — one with Gandhi at his spinning wheel, another of him in a praying pose and the third with grand-nieces Abha and Manu — will be installed in the park.

The product of four months of hard work and planning by the BMP, the three sculptures have been made by artists at the Alamatti project area, near Bagalkot. The cost of the sculptures is Rs 3 lakh.

“Our idea is to incorporate the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi in the park.

These three scenes of Gandhi’s life have been chosen because people will easily identify with them. It is close to their hearts. The theme park is also being developed to keep the memories of Gandhi alive and satisfy a certain curiosity and eagerness among the people to know more about the Mahatma,” a BMP source told Deccan Herald.

The BMP hopes its initiative will generate a positive response from the people.

“If this clicks, more such theme parks and ideas are in the offing,” added the source.

The sculptures, still in their final stage of completion, are made of cement and concrete.

They will later be painted with streaks of black and gold.

The BMP has also ventured into the project to tap the tourist potential of the City.

“We hope the tourists will get a feel of our history through these sculptures. The stone slabs attached to them will take them into the past, as well as into the work of art,” said the source. The theme park will be thrown open to the public within a day or two.
