Industry leaders and workers in the Peenya Industrial Complex will launch agitations and protests against Government apathy to infrastructure issues in the area.

Industry leaders and workers in the Peenya Industrial Complex will launch agitations and protests against Government apathy to infrastructure issues in the area. Peenya Industries Association president A Padmanabha said on Friday that the companies would wait till Saturday for the Dasarahalli CMC to take steps to improve the condition of roads, failing which the association would take to the streets.

“Roads in the area are in a terrible shape and the CMC is only making promises and complaining of lack of funds. It is not even filling the potholes and making the roads motorable,” he alleged.

According to Mr Padmanabha, though Rs 63 lakh was required for immediate work on roads, only Rs 6 lakh was sanctioned to the CMC.

Infrastructure

“We are planning to take up major infrastructure works in the area with the assistance of the Central Government with a budget of Rs 26 crore, 10 per cent of which will be borne by the industries in the area.

However, we are still in the process of identifying consultants and preparing estimates for the project, which will take its own time. We are only asking the CMC to take care of the minor requirements, which are not being addressed,” Mr Padmanabha said.

The Association has also raised issues regarding the state of underground drainage systems, garbage disposal and streetlights in the area.

“People who work in the area find driving on the roads extremely tough. Some of the potential investors have backed out after seeing the pathetic condition of the roads,” Mr B P Shashidhar, Managing Council Member of the Association, said.

The Peenya Industrial Complex, which was established about 30 years ago, employs about 3.5 lakh workers.
