More heritage walks

More heritage walks
The Hindu

After taking Bangaloreans down memory lane in the Victorian Bangalore Walk, BangaloreWalks is back with The End of the Empire walk. Starting today, the walk will take you through Bangalore from the late 1800s to 1947.

And don't worry, it isn't a repetition of the Victorian Walk.

The new walk takes off from right where the Victorian Walk ends at the St. Marks Cathedral. Starting at 7 a.m., the almost four-hour walk will take you through the last 100 years of the British Raj in Bangalore and the rise of the Mysore State.

The walk is priced at Rs. 495 and includes breakfast at a surprise venue.

Three more walks are also on offer to choose from. The Lalbagh Walk on weekend mornings, the Beer History Walk on Sunday evenings and the Heritage Trail Cycle events on Sunday afternoons. The Lalbagh Walk looks at the botanical garden as a unique piece of scientific heritage. The organisers say it does not focus on the technical aspects of botany or horticulture, but makes Lalbagh interesting for those who want to learn more about the gardens. The walk is again priced at Rs. 495 and includes breakfast at MTR.

The Beer History Walk traces Bangalore's rise as the pub capital of India. Here you will start at Koshy's and then learn more about the city's beer history as you pub-hop. The walk includes four beers and dinner and lasts from 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. The price is Rs. 1,250 for first-timers and Rs. 995 for BangaloreWalks' regulars. The Heritage Trail Cycle events are in association with BSA and take you through the city cantonment's unique history.
