BANGALORE: Be prepared for a family joy ride inside the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. The Lalbagh officials have come up with a unique idea of introducing battery operated and eco-friendly vehicles for the convenience of visiting families.

The aged, children and disabled persons will no more be deprived of enjoyment amidst the pristine beauty on the sprawling 240 acres of Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

Chairman of Mysore Horticulture Society Vasant Kumar said the battery operated vehicles would be introduced in Lalbagh very soon. Initially, there will be two cars and four scooters.

Kumar added that the decision to have these vehicles inside the garden was taken keeping in mind the dificulties faced by a big number of visitors in walking all the way in the garden.

Children, elders and the disabled will get first priority, if there is more demand for these vehicles.

The vehicles will be designed by Reva, the car maufacturer, and Eco, an electric scooter company. The project has been entrusted to Bangalore Garden Trust.

According to Vasant Kumar, the vehicles are yet to be designed, to suit the special requirements.

“ It will take another 15 days time to take the decision. The vehicles will be of slow speed,” he added.

The Lalbagh officials said that it will not cause pollution as it will not be operated by diesel or petrol. The vehicles are easy-to-operate and are slow moving.

Rentals will be decided based on the demand. However, the park will invest around Rs 5 lakh on a four wheeler and Rs 35,000 on a two wheeler.
