The compound wall of Oxford College of Engineering and Dental Sciences on Hosur Road was razed to the ground, as part of the demolition drive undertaken by the Bommanahalli CMC and the Revenue Department on Wednesday.

The demolition drive was undertaken to clear the route of storm water drains to provide for drainage. The CMC has been under attack in recent times following frequent flash floods in the area caused by overflowing stormwater drains.

CMC Commissioner Uday Shankar, who participated in the drive, said the college had encroached upon the stormwater drain by covering it and building a compound wall over it. A part of the wall, measuring nearly 80 feet, was demolished in the operation that began at 9 am.

The CMC began its drive on Tuesday at JP Nagar V Stage, where nearly 200 metres of an illegally constructed compound wall were demolished near Puttenahalli tank.

The Commissioner said they were planning to take strict action against encroachers, especially those who had interfered with the drainage channels. “We will not be giving any notices to constructions that have been identified as illegal,” he added.

The drive is likely to continue for another 10 days, covering the entire stretch from Hosur Road-Oxford College junction to Begur Lake. Survey work to identify illegal encroachments will also be conducted simultaneously, Shankar added.
