Wet Bits

WET BITS
The Times of India

One more promise!
Chief minister N Dharam Singh on Monday announced Rs 55 crore immediate relief for rain-affected Bangalore and the five districts of Old Mysore region. Singh said Rs 30 crore will be given to the BCC and seven CMCs around Bangalore and remaining Rs 25 crore will be distributed to Hassan, Mysore, Mandya, Bangalore Rural and Kolar districts.

Police busy
Traffic police who are battling to manage vehicles on flooded roads have deferred ban on parking of vehicles on some roads till the festive season gets over. The new rule which should have come into force from Monday has been postponed.

Keep working: CM
Why didn’t the BCC officials come to the rescue of Bangaloreans whose houses were flooded with rain water on Sunday? Because Sunday is a holiday! Not just the common man, CM N Dharam Singh fumed when he got to know the reason. Taking stock of the rain situation in the state on Monday, an angry Singh said: “So what if it is Sunday, I want al officials to be on the field.’’

SMS alert
Some technology this! The city traffic police sent out SMSes to mobile phones asking Bangaloreans to stay off Hosur Road. The messages that started flowing in from 10.30 am and went on till about 6 pm stated, “Message from the Bangalore City Traffic police, please avoid Hosur Road due to waterlogging.”

Home at last
Nursery students of Indus International school who started from school at 3 pm, reached their homes around 10 pm. Little Drishya along with her friends spent 7 hours on the bus, definitely a lot more time than she spent at the school! Thankfully the driver of the bus was carrying a mobile and a teacher accompanying the children called parents to inform the long delay. In fact children were also served snacks on the bus, Drishya’s father said.
