Why the deluge in B’lore high?

Perched 920 meters above sea level, Bangalore is said to have an “enviable” location. A fact that will be hard to believe by those stranded in the floods, but according to authorities, Bangalore, thanks to topography, should ideally not have a flooding problem. That is, if a proper draining system is in place and the lakes and tanks are maintained efficiently. But with the City being nowhere close to perfect, Bangaloreans should rather be safe than sorry. These are some of the identified ‘vulnerable’ areas, which are prone to floods.
The reasons why these places get flooded, according to BDA commissioner M N Vidyashankar: Ejipura-Valley area; HSR Layout- Proximity to Hulimavu, Puttenahalli, Madiwala and Begur Tank; Koramangala (certain pockets)- Proximity to Belandur Lake; BTM Layout- Encroachments on Madiwala tank bed; Nayandanahalli, Mysore Road-Proximity to Vrishabhavathi Canal; Bannerghatta Road- Lack of drainage system; J P Nagar V and VI Stage --- Proximity to Puttenahalli Lake & inadequate drainag; CMC Bommanahalli-Presence of 4 tanks; CMC Byatarayanapura-Proximity to Hebbal Lake & inadequate drainage; CMC KR Puram (certain pockets)- Inadequate drainage; CMC Mahadevapura (certain pockets)- Inadequate drainage.
