BANGALORE: With Saturday night's incessant rain throwing life out of gear in most parts of the city, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's control rooms were flooded with telephone calls from residents of areas within the city limits as well as the surrounding city municipal councils (CMCs).

Though several residents complained that personnel posted at the control rooms were not prompt in attending to problems, officials claimed that all the complaints were attended to.

"We have also attended to problems in Bommanahalli, Byatarayanapura, Rajajeshwari Nagar and Yelahanka, which fall under the CMC limits.

Additional men and material have been deployed at all the control rooms to tackle further problems," a senior official said.

Most of the calls received at the control room at the BMP Head Office were relating to tree uprooting and inundation of low-lying areas. Three incidents trees getting uprooted in the rain were reported from Vijaynagar Main Road, 1st block, Koramanagala and behind Central College in Gandhinagar.

Six cases of inundation were reported from Swarna Extension in Indiranagar 2nd Stage, Narasamanna Hovina Tota on Mysore Road, AECS Extension in Sanjaynagar, Housing Colony, Opposite ESI Hospital in Indiranagar, Rangappa Garden in RRMR Extension, 8th Main, 1st Block in HRBR Extension. This apart, two cases of wall collapse were reported from Nagarathpet.

The south zone control room received seven complaints. These included two cases of drain blockages (on Vijayanagar Pipeline Road and in 8th Block Jayanagar).

While residents of Madivala, Shakambarinagar, Basavanagudi and JP Nagar complained of water-logging in their areas, a case of wall collapse near Srinivasa cinema in Padmanabhanagar was also reported.

Fourteen calls on inundation and water-logging were received at the east zone control room. Residents of Jogupalya, Indiranagar, Promenade Road, Hoysalanagar, Sampangiramnagar, Eshwar Layout, 4th Block, Koramangala, 80 ft Road in Indiranagar, Rajaram Mohun Roy Road, BDA Complex in Koramangala, Cambridge Layout, Domlur and Residency Road complained about water gushing into their houses.

The complaints were attended to in time, according to a BMP press release.
