MANY areas under the Byatarayanapura CMC limits, including the Bhadrappa Layout, Devi Nagar , Kodigehalli and T ata Nagar have knee-deep water as a result of water overflowing from a storm water drain near BEL and the Dodda Bommasandra lake.

With the entire area being inundated, residents of Kodigehalli and T ata Nagar have to travel an additional distance of 7 to 8 kms to reach the Bellary Main Road via Vidyaranyapura.

CMC officials were seen making public announcements advising people not to come out of their homes. Parents, who came to pick up children from schools, carried them on their shoulders through waterlogged streets.

The residents blamed the CMC officials for the present situation. "Lack of proper drainages in the area has resulted in a situation like this," the residents rued. In some places, sewage water has mixed with rain water . The stench emanating as a result of this has only compounded the problems of the residents, Krishna, a resident of Maruthinagar told BVT .

The Outer Ring Roads too seemed to have borne the brunt of the incessant rain. The roads were flooded with three to four feet of water . The areas off Hennur Main Road including Nagavara, and Eeranna Palya and Kadugondana Halli, Kavalbyrasandra, Sultanpalya, Ganganagar were completely inundated.

OVER 5,000 people residing in the areas of RBI Layout, Vinayakanagar, Gauravanagar and Kothnurdinne staged a protest on Tuesday at the Puttenahalli Main Road against the pathetic state of roads in the City .

"The potholes in the roads are a danger to commuters. The roads here have not been relaid for years and the authorities concerned have done nothing so far," a protestor said.

"It’s highly impossible for a two-wheeler to take this road and autor ickshaw dr ivers refuse to come here," he added.

Residents living in the low-lying areas across the Puttenahalli lake have been having a tough time. Their homes have been partially submerged in water after the lake overflowed.

A school in this locality has not been functioning for almost a month. "Though missing classes for a month is of great concern, I am more worried about my children’s safety ," said Mukund Rao, a parent.

Several trees on Bellary Road, Hebbal, Anand Nagar, Cholanayakana Halli, K R Circle, J P Nagar I phase and II Phase, Yeshwanthpur and other areas were uprooted. There were also reports of a few houses in Ward No 16 and 17 having collapsed following the incessant rains.
