Kharge comes to Krishna’s rescue
GOWDA LASHES OUT
Kharge comes to Krishna’s rescue
The Times of India
Bangalore: In a swift reaction on Saturday, KPCC president Mallikarjun M Kharge came to Maharashtra governor S M Krishna’s rescue, who has been accused by JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda of using IT czar N R Narayana Murthy to destabilise the Congress-JDS government in Karnataka.
Speaking to the Sunday Times of India here Kharge said: “Where is the question of Krishna indulging in such activity? If the government falls, it will be due to squabbling between the coalition partners. No outside force can destabilise the government.’’
Disagreeing with Gowda’s acerbic attack on Krishna and Murthy, Kharge said: “This is not good nor is in the state’s interest. Contribution of Murthy to IT sector is laudable.’’
Gowda, at the press conference, wanted the President to take note of the “cheap politics’’ Krishna was indulging in as governor. He accused ‘Krishna & Co’ of trying to politically finish him and his family by supporting the Ahinda movement, spearheaded by his detractor Siddaramaiah. In fact, when Ahinda rallies were held at Tumkur and Hassan, Krishna had pitched tent in Bangalore instead of being in Mumbai’s Raj Bhavan, Gowda maintained.
The JD government had drawn more investors in 1944-1999 than Krishna’s regime. “The Krishna government only held global investors’ meet and coastal investors’ meet. They were nothing but jamborees,’’ he added.
Appealing to people not to be carried away by people who speak Oxford English or dress smartly, Gowda took exception to Krishna’s frequent visits to Bangalore. “When I was PM, I came to Bangalore to see my mother, who was on the deathbed; I didn’t come to check if my toilet is locked and safe,’’ he said ridiculing Krishna.
Premji mum
Wipro chief Azim Premji has declined to intervene in the spat between JD(S) chief Deve Gowda and Infosys’s Narayana Murthy.
When queried, Premji said Bangalore needed an international airport. Asked if he could persuade Murthy to withdraw his resignation, Premji pointed to the CM standing beside him and said: “That’s the job of the CM. I will not interfere.”
