State seeks Central funds to improve roads around Bangalore

BANGALORE: The State government has submitted a proposal to the Centre, seeking a 50 per cent of the cost to upgrade 38 link roads around Bangalore.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 550 crore. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, PWD and Energy Minister H D Revanna said that the Centre had given funds to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to improve Roads around Hyderabad.
“We have asked the Centre to grant at least 50 per cent of the total cost to improve roads around Bangalore on par with Hyderabad,'' he said.
He said that nearly 446 km of roads around Bangalore will be upgraded to provide better access to IT and BT companies.
“This project is basically aimed to provide better infrastructure to Bangalore,'' he said. The project includes a 48 km link road from Konena Agrahara to Bangalore International Airport at Devanhally.
Union Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu has promised to consider the proposals, he said.
This apart, the State has also submitted proposals to upgrade 133 km long Hospet-Chitradurga Road and 237 km long Bijapur - Gulbarga Road.
Revanna also said that proposal has been given to upgrade Hospet-Chitradurga Road to four lane, 148 km long six lane Hassan-Bnatwal road, 63 km long Hospet-Bellary Road at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore, Rs 450 crore and Rs 400 crore respectively.
