More harebrained projects from BMP

Three grade separators in city

BANGALORE: Even as the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) struggles to complete the grade separator at Rajajinagar entrance, three more major projects are on the anvil. The proposed grade separators, all in Basavanagudi, are part of BCC’s plan to develop North-South corridors in the city.

At RV Teacher’s College Cirlce, a grade separator is designed to accommodate the proposed Metro Rail. The 323 metre long flyover from South End Circle to Siddiaih Circle would involve acquisition of land from RV Educational Institute, said BCC sources. Over 280 square metre of vacant land belonging to the Institute would be acquired for the project.

As the Metro Rail alignment passes through this stretch, provisions have been made to accommodate it. A pier would be erected from the flyover deck to a height of over seven metres on which another deck would be prepared to carry the Metro Rail.

‘‘The flyover will have a carriageway width of 12 metres and the Metro rail would come up with a support structure from the centre of this carriageway,’’ said a BCC engineer.

The RV College project will cost Rs. 8.24 crore and the tendering process is underway.

Ramakrishna Ashram Circle Project: On Bull Temple road in Basavanagudi, a one-way underpass from market side is planned with two down ramps towards BMS College and Gandhi Bazaar. The project will have a flyover across the underpass connecting Hanumanthnagar to the National College Circle.

The underpass portion is 795 metres long and the flyover portion is 648 metres long. The project would cost Rs. 21.58 crore according to BCC sources.

Tagore Circle Project: A grade separator across Tagore Circle on KR Road is planned to ease the current traffic load of 11,362 pcu per hour. The traffic load is projected to increase to 24,863 pcu per hour after 20 years and the grade separator would take care of that, said sources from BCC engineering division.

Rs. 8.68 crore project would have 581-metre long underpass, which includes a box portion at Tagore Circle.
