BMP to rebuild Ulsoor Lake retaining wall

BANGALORE: Following the collapse of a portion of the retaining wall of the Ulsoor Lake on Gurdwara side on Tuesday, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has taken steps to revent overflowing of water on to the road.

BMP Additional Commissioner (Finance) P.K. Srihari, who is also the Engineer-in-Chief, told The Hindu on Wednesday that sand bags have been placed along the collapsed portion and "caution belts" have been put up to prevent any accidents.

Mr. Srihari said: "It is an old construction, which was not touched while the project was implemented. We are starting work on reconstructing the wall from Thursday."

No damage

Mayor R. Narayanaswamy said that Tuesday's downpour hasnot caused any damage to life and property in the city. In a press release, the Mayor said: "Except for traffic snarls and water logging in a few low-lying areas, Tuesday's rain has not caused any damage to life and property."

"The BMP is equipped to tackle any emergency during rain. Prahari and municipal service squads have been stationed in the BMP central control room and zonal control rooms to rush to the rain-affected areas during emergencies.

The control room staff and Prahari staff have been strictly asked to be alert and rush to help citizens in distress," he said.

In case of rain-related emergencies, members of the public can call 22221188 (BMP head office control room), 22975803 (control room - east) 26566362 (control room - south) or 23341692 (control room - west).
